Garden centres may not seem like an obvious place to take the kids but trust me they can provide hours of entertainment.

Lots of garden centres have aquatic centres and kids love to look at all the colourful fish. We’ve wasted a good few hours and spent very little, wandering around looking at animal statues and fish!

As well as your every day Garden Centres there are many that have really upped their game on the family front offering amazing play areas.

Here’s a few garden centres you really should check out in Yorkshire:

– Wentworth Garden Centre – Rotherham – about an hours drive from York or Harrogate. I haven’t personally been here yet but we are going later this yeat. It has beautiful gardens, a farm, outdoor adventure play area and newly opened sand and water area. It’s good value for money and if you are an RHS member you can get free entry.

– Tong Garden Centre – Bradford – again just shy of an hour from York or Harrogate. This is home to Grass Hoppers at Tong Garden Centre. It really made me go WOW as we walked through the doors. The garden centre itself is large and impressive but the play area (calling it that really underplays it) is amazing. I did a full write up on this place here.

– Dean’s Garden Centre – Stockton on the Forest (York) and Scarborough. Both garden centres have lovely cafes. ‘The Bothy’ cafe in Dean’s York has a play area and a monthly story and craft session.

– Grass Roots Harrogate – This is a gorgeous garden centre between Harrogate and Ripon. The cafe serves beautiful homemade food. We wandered around the shop, played in World of their Own vintage play space and had a delicious dinner in the cafe.
