Yesterday we had quite an unexpected morning at Horticap in Harrogate. On our list to visit but we didn’t know what to expect. It’s a definite hidden gem.

Situated just near Harlow Carr, it is a garden centre with a difference. They offer opportunities for adults disabilities to train in horticulture, crafts and rural skills alongside qualified staff.

It was much bigger than we expected. The little ones enjoyed looking at all the veg patches then we went on the woodland trail. Following the bunny signs we made our way through past sculptures and bee houses  to a fairy village 🧚🏻‍♀️ With a playhouse, numerous fairy doors, a wishing well and more, we were really wowed. We carried on walking to see the Horticap Bunnies then Nursery Rhyme Corner where there were books  and colouring. There was something different round every turn.

We finished up with a trip to the cafe. They have a few tables inside but plenty of space outside. Outside they also have a playhouse cafe which kept the kiddies entertained for ages! The cafe just serves drinks and snacks (cakes and crisps). We were told they are planning to extend the cafe facilities soon so they can extend the menu. We’d brought a little picnic for the kids. As well as the cafe there were plenty of spots on the woodland trail you could sit and enjoy a picnic 🥪

This place exceeded our expectations. It was free to go in (there was donation boxes dotted around). We had a lovely morning and will definitely be back.

If you haven’t been definitely pop this place on your list.
